A notice from SBCA or the fire brigade

Send a photo of the notice and of your shop or floor. Read what the 2026 rules ask.

An extinguisher that is empty, old or past its refill date

Photograph the label: type, size and the date tag.

Refilling

A smoke alarm that keeps chirping

A chirp usually means a low battery or an alarm at the end of its life. Check the maker’s guide before you replace it.

A gas smell or a leaking cylinder

Not a shop job. No flames or switches, open doors and windows, close the cylinder valve if it is safe, and call your gas supplier or the fire brigade.

Which fire extinguisher do I need?

Pick the place you want to protect. You get the usual choice, what not to do, and today's UTC price.

Where is the fire risk?

Home

Usual choice: A 2 kg to 4 kg dry powder (ABC) extinguisher, kept near the exit. Add a fire blanket near the kitchen.

Why: ABC powder works on wood, cloth, paper, fuel and electrical fires, so one unit covers most home fires.

Avoid: Do not use water on an oil or electrical fire. Powder leaves a fine mess, so clean up after use.

Place one unit near each exit and one near each fire risk, so you never walk through smoke to reach it.

UTC price, 13 Oct 2026: Dry powder (DCP), China, 2 kg: Rs 3,500; Dry powder (DCP), China, 4 kg: Rs 4,500. Call to confirm stock.

Kitchen

Usual choice: A fire blanket first, for a pan fire. Keep a 1 kg to 2 kg dry powder (ABC) extinguisher as a backup.

Why: A blanket smothers a pan fire without spraying. Keep both within reach, but not right above the stove.

Avoid: Never pour water on burning oil. Never carry a burning pan.

Place one unit near each exit and one near each fire risk, so you never walk through smoke to reach it.

UTC price, 13 Oct 2026: Dry powder (DCP), China, 2 kg: Rs 3,500. Call to confirm stock.

Shop or market

Usual choice: A 4 kg to 6 kg dry powder (ABC) extinguisher at the door, and more on the way to the back.

Why: Shops hold cloth, paper, plastic and wiring. ABC powder handles all of these. The February 2026 amendment says each retail shop needs an extinguisher (reported by The News).

Avoid: Do not wait for the fire brigade before you act on a small fire. If it spreads past the first unit, leave and call the fire brigade.

Place one unit near each exit and one near each fire risk, so you never walk through smoke to reach it.

UTC price, 13 Oct 2026: Dry powder (DCP), China, 4 kg: Rs 4,500; Dry powder (DCP), China, 6 kg: Rs 5,500. Call to confirm stock.

Office

Usual choice: A 4 kg to 6 kg dry powder (ABC) extinguisher per floor area, and a CO2 extinguisher near the computers.

Why: ABC covers paper, furniture and wiring. CO2 leaves no residue on computers and printers.

Avoid: Do not use powder on server racks if CO2 is near. Do not block exits with units.

Place one unit near each exit and one near each fire risk, so you never walk through smoke to reach it.

UTC price, 13 Oct 2026: Dry powder (DCP), China, 4 kg: Rs 4,500; Dry powder (DCP), China, 6 kg: Rs 5,500; CO2, China, 3 kg: Rs 8,000. Call to confirm stock.

Car or bike

Usual choice: A 1 kg to 2 kg dry powder (ABC) extinguisher that you can reach from the driver seat.

Why: A small unit handles an engine bay or seat fire early. Fix it with a bracket so it does not roll.

Avoid: Do not open the bonnet fully on an engine fire. Lift it a little, aim in, and keep your face back.

Place one unit near each exit and one near each fire risk, so you never walk through smoke to reach it.

UTC price, 13 Oct 2026: Dry powder (DCP), China, 1 kg: Rs 3,000; Dry powder (DCP), China, 2 kg: Rs 3,500. Call to confirm stock.

Factory or warehouse

Usual choice: A 6 kg to 9 kg dry powder (ABC) extinguisher at exits and by machines. Add trolley units for large floors and CO2 beside electrical panels.

Why: Large floors need units close enough to reach in seconds. Hydrant or sprinkler systems are a separate job, and we can talk through them.

Avoid: Do not use water near live machines or panels. Do not mix stock that burns differently in one corner.

Place one unit near each exit and one near each fire risk, so you never walk through smoke to reach it.

UTC price, 13 Oct 2026: Dry powder (DCP), China, 6 kg: Rs 5,500; CO2, China, 5 kg: Rs 12,000. Call to confirm stock.

Server room or electrical panel

Usual choice: A 3 kg to 5 kg CO2 extinguisher. For a larger room, ask us about a gas system such as FM-200.

Why: CO2 leaves no residue on electronics. It works by pushing out oxygen, so it is for small fires only.

Avoid: Hold the handle, not the horn, because the horn gets very cold. Ventilate the room and leave after use.

Place one unit near each exit and one near each fire risk, so you never walk through smoke to reach it.

UTC price, 13 Oct 2026: CO2, China, 3 kg: Rs 8,000; CO2, China, 5 kg: Rs 12,000. Call to confirm stock.

Generator or fuel store

Usual choice: A 6 kg to 9 kg dry powder (ABC) extinguisher near the door, away from the fuel.

Why: Powder knocks down a fuel fire fast. Put the unit where you can reach it without walking through the fire.

Avoid: Never use water on petrol or diesel. Do not refuel a hot generator.

Place one unit near each exit and one near each fire risk, so you never walk through smoke to reach it.

UTC price, 13 Oct 2026: Dry powder (DCP), China, 6 kg: Rs 5,500. Call to confirm stock.

Anything else there? Tick what applies.

This is a general guide. The fire brigade and Civil Defence decide what your building needs, and we cannot promise an inspection will pass. Ask us to confirm the powder grade printed on the unit.

What does a fire safety company do?

A fire safety company supplies, installs, inspects and services the fire protection equipment that slows a fire and helps people leave a building. That means extinguishers, alarms, hydrants, sprinklers, pumps and exit lights. The better ones also check, a year later, that the gear still works. UTC does this work in Karachi.

Some jobs are over the counter, like a new extinguisher or a refill. Others start with drawings, like a hydrant line for a tower or sprinklers for a godown.

What UTC does not do

UTC does not issue NOCs, because the fire brigade and Civil Defence do that. It does not run fire training courses or drills. It cannot promise that an inspection will pass. What it can do is supply the right equipment, install and test it, and give you a written quote and papers you can show an inspector.

Where to find us in Karachi

You can find us at Shop no 1, Shams Chamber, Shahrah-e-Liaquat, opposite DIGP investigation office, Seari Quarters, Karachi.

Seari Quarters is the old business district around Merewether Tower, I. I. Chundrigar Road and M. A. Jinnah Road. It started as a caravanserai outside the old city walls, filled with cotton warehouses and banks in the 1860s and 1870s, and still has more than 200 historic buildings.

If you need one size or model, call first so the team can check the shelf.

A fire safety equipment supplier in Karachi for homes, shops and projects

We sell to all three. A flat owner can buy one extinguisher and a fire blanket. A shop can buy a set for each floor. A contractor can send a bill of quantities for a hydrant, sprinkler or alarm job.

Most people who need fire safety equipment in Karachi start with one extinguisher and add from there. Walk-in buyers and project buyers both get the quote in writing.

What changed for Karachi building owners in 2026

Since January the rules for Karachi’s buildings have tightened, and the notices have reached ordinary shops. Here are the dates.

  1. 17 Jan 2026

A fire at Gul Plaza on M. A. Jinnah Road burned for more than 32 hours. More than 70 people died.

    Source: The News

  2. 24 Jan 2026

The Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) reported that about 90 percent of buildings in three Karachi districts lacked fire arrangements. It sent notices to more than 300 buildings and gave owners three days to install equipment. Owners must then get a no objection certificate (NOC) from the fire brigade.

    Source: The News

  3. 18 Feb 2026

The Karachi building regulations were amended. Each retail shop needs an extinguisher, and departmental stores need at least one for every 400 square feet. Completion plans for public-sale, industrial and amenity buildings need NOCs from Civil Defence and the fire brigade, and must plan water tanks for fire use.

    Source: The News

  4. End of March 2026

200 shops in Hashoo Centre, Saddar were sealed for not having safety measures.

  5. 27 Aug 2026

Sindh told private schools to fit and test alarms and smoke detectors, put extinguishers on every floor and hold at least three evacuation drills a year.

  6. 19 Sep 2026

Sindh announced audits of school buildings across the province. The report gives no deadline.

No newer deadline for shops appears in these reports. Facts in this section were checked on 13 Oct 2026.

UTC supplies, installs and tests equipment. It does not issue NOCs.

How do I choose a fire safety company in Karachi?

Check four things before you pay anyone. The equipment fits your building. The product is genuine and in date. The quote lists every item. Someone answers, delivers and helps after the sale. Ask every shop the same four questions, including us.

Does it fit my building and pass the inspection?

A shop, a school and a warehouse need different things. Ask the seller how the equipment was matched to your floor plan or approved drawings. Nobody can promise approval, because Civil Defence and the fire brigade decide that.

Is it genuine and in date?

Ask for the invoice, the label showing size and rating, the maker’s datasheet and the refill date tag. Check them before you pay, not after.

Is the quote itemised?

A fair quote lists each item with size, brand, quantity and delivery. Put two quotes side by side and compare them line by line, not by the total. UTC quotes in writing on request.

Will anyone answer, deliver and help later?

Send your enquiry on WhatsApp with a photo and your area, then see how long the reply takes.

Want the four answers in writing? Request a quote and compare us line by line.

Which fire needs which extinguisher?

Match the extinguisher to what is burning. The wrong one can spread the fire or give you a shock.

Never use water on cooking oil, petrol, diesel or live electrical equipment.

How an order or project works

UTC handles one extinguisher and a full hydrant system the same way: you send details, we quote, we deliver or install, then we test and hand over.

Can I get a quote without a site visit?

Yes, for most stocked items. Send a photo of the space or item, its size or capacity, the building type and your area on WhatsApp. Large jobs such as hydrants, sprinklers and pump rooms need drawings or a bill of quantities, and sometimes a site visit.

How a project usually goes

  1. You send a photo, a drawing or a bill of quantities. For a shop, a photo of the floor and the entrance is enough to start.
  2. We review it, or visit the site if the job needs it. Hydrant, sprinkler and pump room jobs usually do.
  3. You get an itemised quote that lists each item, size, brand and quantity.
  4. We deliver the items, or install them from the approved drawings.
  5. We test the system and hand over the papers, so you have something to show an inspector.
  6. We note when the next refill or inspection is due, so it does not slip.

Fire protection for shops, schools, factories and high-rises

Shops, markets and plazas

Under the February 2026 amendment, each retail shop needs an extinguisher (see the dates above). The sealing of 200 shops in Hashoo Centre, Saddar showed that building-level checks reach whole markets. Walk-in buyers can start at fire extinguishers.

Schools and colleges

The Sindh Directorate of Inspection and Registration of Private Institutions issued the school directive, and audits of school buildings followed (see the dates above). It asks for alarms, smoke detectors, extinguishers on every floor and three drills a year. UTC supplies and tests the equipment. Running drills is up to the school.

Factories, warehouses and industrial areas

After a December 2025 garment factory fire in the Landhi export zone, the federal government told EPZA, the export zones authority, to make sure fire equipment is installed. Hoses, pump sets, hydrants and extinguishers for these sites sit under installation.

Towers, hotels and hospitals

Towers, hotels and hospitals depend on alarms, hydrant lines, pump rooms and lit exit routes, and new public-sale and amenity buildings need the NOCs described above. UTC supplies, installs and tests the equipment side.

Offices, banks and server rooms

Offices need alarms and extinguishers on each floor. Server and electrical rooms use clean agent such as FM-200 instead of water. See FM-200.

Tell us your building type on WhatsApp and we will say which systems usually apply.

What is where, and how many fire calls each station area logged

Different parts of the city need different gear. The industrial estates run on pumps, hoses and trolley extinguishers. Saddar’s markets run on extinguishers shop by shop. Homes need a small kit. The table shows what each area is known for, plus the fire calls its station logged in January 2026 (225 across the city; the report broke down 150 of them). Station areas are the fire brigade’s grouping, not districts.

Questions people ask before they call

What is fire safety, and what does it cover?

Fire safety is everything done to stop a fire starting, spot it early, slow it down and get people out. It covers wiring checks, alarms, extinguishers, hydrants, sprinklers, clear exits and a plan people know. Equipment handles the first minutes. The rest depends on the building and the people in it.
