What is a jubilee clip, and what do Karachi buyers call it?
A jubilee clip is a worm drive hose clamp: a metal band with a screw that tightens it around a hose on a barb or tail. Sellers in Karachi and Lahore write the same part as SS clamp, bolt clamp or hose clamp, so a search for one name can miss the others.
We use all of those names on this page so the part is easy to find. Whether you type jubilee clamp, worm clamp or hose clip, you mean the same ring, and a jubilee clamp in Karachi is the same part as a jubilee clip. If you are asking a shop for a jubilee clip in Karachi and get a blank look, describe the band and screw, or send a photo.
Does Karachi even use the word jubilee? Not that we could prove. One honest limit: we found no source that proves which word Karachi workshops use most. Sellers' own pages say SS clamp and bolt clamp. When you call, any of the names works.
Which hose clamp suits which hose and job?
Match the clamp to the hose wall and the pressure. A worm drive clamp suits low pressure and soft hose, a T-bolt clamp holds more pressure and vibration, and a spring or ear clamp suits small hoses on fixed lines. The table shows where each belongs.
| Clamp | Best for | Check first |
|---|---|---|
| Worm drive (jubilee clip) | Water lines, tank outlets, low pressure | Band width against hose wall |
| T-bolt clamp | Larger hose, pumps, vibration | Bolt and band material |
| Spring or ear clamp | Small hose, fixed lines | Hose OD range |
Aims Industrial's hose clamp guide puts worm drive clamps at roughly 60 to 80 psi on standard rubber hose and T-bolt clamps near 300 psi. Treat those as approximate supplier figures and not a standard. The hose maker's datasheet decides what your line can take.
If you are choosing a hose clamp in Karachi for a pump or tank job, tell us the hose type and the liquid. Hose clamp Karachi buyers often start with the clamp and forget the hose, and the hose decides more than the clamp does. A jubilee clip Karachi workshops use on a tank outlet is chosen the same way. Our industrial hoses page covers the hose side of the joint.
How do I choose the right clamp size for my hose?
Pick a clamp range where the hose outer diameter sits near the middle of the range, not at either end, which is how a hose and clamp are matched. At the extremes the band has no adjustment left. For example, a 25 mm hose fits a 19 to 32 mm clamp better than a 25 to 38 mm one.
Measure the hose OD in mm over the barb, not the inside diameter. Soft or thin-walled hose takes a wider band, because a narrow band edge can cut into it. Supplier tables run from 9.5 mm (size OOO) to 318 mm (size 12 1/2), so almost any hose has a clamp.
Why does size trip people up? Local listings often mix units in one title, such as 0.6 inch, 5/8 inch and 3/8 together. If a listing does not agree with itself, send us the number you measured and we confirm it.
Worm drive or T-bolt clamp: which holds better?
T-bolt holds better under pressure and vibration. A reply on a pressure washer forum put it plainly: a hose blew off at 190 psi after a switch to T-bolt clamps. The poster suspected under-tightening, replies asked whether the barb size matched the hose, and the poster's fix was fully clamping. Crews there use two or three clamps on critical joints.
Worm drive is not wrong. It is enough for water at low pressure on soft hose. But a worm clamp edge can cut a soft hose. Ask yourself two questions: does the line vibrate, and does it run above low pressure? If either answer is yes, step up to T-bolt.
How tight should a hose clamp be?
Hand tight plus a quarter turn, no more. Supplier guidance warns that over-tightening crushes the hose wall, can damage a braid and pushes rubber out past the barb. Place the clamp 5 to 10 mm back from the hose end, over the barb shoulder.
On a critical joint use two clamps about 10 mm apart with the screws turned 180 degrees from each other. That spreads the load and means one slipped screw does not empty the line.
Zinc plated, 304 or 316 clamps: which lasts in Karachi?
Zinc plated suits dry indoor jobs, 304 stainless handles most general work, and 316 stainless resists chlorides best. Karachi has high humidity from March to November and a coast, so stainless is the safer ask for anything outdoors, near a tank or on a yard line.
| Material | Use it for | Watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Zinc plated steel | Dry, indoor, short life | Rust in humid air, zinc screw on stainless braid |
| 304 stainless | General industrial use | Pitting in chlorides over time |
| 316 stainless | Salt, chemical, marine duty | Higher cost, confirm grade in writing |
Does Karachi air really eat clamps? We have no measured corrosion rate for Karachi, so we do not claim one. What we can say from the climate record is that mean highs reach about 35 degrees C in May and June, with a recorded high of 47.8 degrees C, and humidity stays high most of the year.
Do not trust a magnet test to tell 304 from 316. Cold working makes some stainless magnetic, and a magnet cannot show the grade. Ask the seller for the maker's grade statement. Mixing a zinc plated screw into a stainless braid hose clamp is a known problem too: use a full stainless clamp, band and screw.
Which grades and sizes are in hand changes week to week. Send the size and grade you want and we confirm stock before you travel.
Which couplings can I ask for: camlock, quick coupler or hose coupling?
A coupling joins a hose to a pump, a tank or another hose, and you pick it by type, size, thread and material. The three families people ask for are camlock couplings, quick couplers and plain hose couplings with tails or barbs. Tell us the liquid, the hose size and what the other end is.
| Coupling | Typical use | Check first |
|---|---|---|
| Camlock (cam and groove) | Tanker and liquid transfer | Type A to F, size, gasket |
| Quick coupler | Air and hydraulic lines, varies by system | System type, thread, pressure |
| Hose coupling, tail or nipple | Fixed hose joints | Hose ID, thread, material |
| Adapter or reducer | Joining different sizes or threads | Both threads, sizes |
A quick coupling and a camlock are not the same, and a quick coupling in Karachi can mean an air, water or hydraulic part, so we ask first. A camlock is a cam and groove coupling with locking arms, made for transfer lines. Quick couplers vary by system, so for air or hydraulic work we need the system and thread before we match one.
Stainless steel fittings work here too, for chemical or food lines. For stainless steel fittings in Karachi, name the grade you need, as in the clamp table above.
How does a camlock coupling work, and what are types A to F?
A camlock coupling locks a male adapter into a female coupler with two cam arms and no tools. The six types, A to F, name the two halves and their ends: male adapters are A, E and F, female couplers are B, C and D. A male adapter always mates with a female coupler.
The letters describe the other end of each part. A is a male adapter with a female thread, B a female coupler with a male thread, C a female coupler with a hose tail, D a female coupler with a female thread, E a male adapter with a hose tail, and F a male adapter with a male thread.
Does size matter? Sizes run from half an inch to 8 inches. In metal, the 1/2 to 2 inch sizes carry about 250 psi cold per the Aims Industrial camlock guide, and less with size and heat. Camlock is made for transfer lines. It is not a fit for permanent pipelines, or for hydraulics above that level.
What goes wrong first? The most common failure is an arm popping open under load. R-clips or lanyards on the arms stop that. The standards behind camlock are MIL-C-27487, replaced by A-A-59326 in 1998, and EN 14420-7 in Europe. DIN 2828 parts interchange with MIL-C-27487 but hose tails and threads differ.
A tanker filling in SITE, where about 4,000 units went four days without water in a report of 31 January 2025 (Profit/Pakistan Today), uses this kind of joint: suction hose, a camlock at the pump and another at the tank.
How do I measure a camlock or thread size?
Measure the inside diameter on a female coupler and the outside diameter on a male adapter, with a caliper. Nominal size and measured size can differ: a 2 inch nominal part may measure closer to 2.5 inches across. Then identify the thread with a pitch gauge before you buy.
BSP and NPT are the two you will meet most. BSP has a 55 degree thread with rounded crests. NPT has a 60 degree thread with flat crests. They do not mix. A BSP and NPT pair leaks in a spiral along the thread, and a tapered NPT joint needs sealant where a JIC end does not.
If you are not sure, send a photo with a tape or coin beside the part, and tell us which end of the line it came from.
Which gasket goes with which liquid?
Match the gasket to the liquid, not the coupling. Buna-N (NBR) is the usual choice for petroleum, EPDM for water, and Viton for aggressive chemicals. Do not use EPDM on diesel. Gasket temperature limits differ between sources, so we publish no figure here. Ask for the maker's datasheet for the exact gasket.
Can I get hydraulic hose fittings too?
Hydraulic hose fittings depend on the hose and the machine, so we handle them by enquiry. Tell us the thread family, the hose size and the machine. We confirm on WhatsApp what we can supply, so you know before you travel.
The thread families you will hear are JIC (a 37 degree flare, metal to metal), ORFS (an O-ring face seal), BSPP (parallel thread), BSPT and NPT (tapered) and metric. JIC and the 45 degree SAE flare look alike and do not interchange. JIS 30 degree looks like JIC and does not interchange either.
Two field notes. A JIC nut that keeps loosening is usually hose twist: hold the fixed hex with a second wrench while you tighten the nut. An ORFS joint that leaks usually has an O-ring flattened by over-tightening, so replace the O-ring and do not tighten harder. The hose itself is on our industrial hoses page.
Why do clamps and couplings leak or fail early?
Most leaks come from a wrong fitting, a wrong thread or a wrong tightening. The same few causes repeat: thread mismatch, an over-tightened clamp, a worm clamp edge cutting a soft hose, a camlock arm that popped open, and a reused fitting.
- Thread mismatch: BSP into NPT leaks along the thread.
- Over-tightening: A crushed hose wall or a torn O-ring.
- Wrong band width: A narrow edge cuts soft hose.
- Camlock arms: Open under load without a clip or lanyard.
- Reused fittings: Stripped threads after the first fit.
- Missing support: A heavy hose pulls on the joint.
Never trace a pressurised leak with your hand. A pinhole can inject fluid under the skin.
Who buys clamps and couplings in Karachi, and for what job?
Factory maintenance staff, workshop owners, tanker operators and contractors buy them, usually in a hurry. The buyer is standing next to a leaking pump or a stopped tanker, not browsing. Karachi's industrial belts, SITE, Korangi, Landhi, North Karachi, Federal B Area and Port Qasim, all need these small parts every week.
What does the buying look like in the rain season? Monsoon work shows the pattern. On 20 August 2025 the Sindh Chief Minister reviewed dewatering after heavy rain, with 26 PDMA pumps in use. Every pump like that needs a suction hose, a delivery hose and joints at both ends, and Shahrah-e-Liaquat, where our shop stands, was named among the flood-prone roads that August.
A maintenance head at a SITE plant wants one thing: the same clamp or coupling as last time, today. A contractor wants a set for a whole pump run. A tanker owner wants camlock ends that fit his hose. Tell us which one you are and we shorten the questions.
Fire hose couplings are a separate range with their own page. Hand protection for fitting work is on our safety gloves page.
What do I send to get the right clamp or coupling quoted?
Send a photo of the old part, the hose size, the thread if you know it, the liquid and how many you need. We reply with the match and a quote. Pay and collect from the shop, or take delivery all over Karachi at a charge agreed on call or WhatsApp.
We are open Monday to Friday 11 am to 7:30 pm and Saturday 11 am to 7 pm, closed Sunday. Call 0313 2291500 first if you need a jubilee clip in Karachi today, so we can confirm it is in hand before you make the trip.
Check grade and band width before the price. A clip that looks the same can be zinc against 304, or a narrow band against a wide one, and that explains most of a price gap. Send us the listing and we compare material, band width and size range line by line, and you decide on the facts.
You do not need to. Send a photo with a tape or coin beside the part, and tell us what the line carries. We work back from the markings and the measured size, and we ask only for what is missing.
- Photograph the old clamp or coupling with a tape or coin beside it
- Send the hose OD or ID, thread if known, liquid and quantity on WhatsApp
- We confirm the match and send a quote
- We confirm stock before you travel
- Collect from Shams Chamber, Shahrah-e-Liaquat, opposite the DIGP investigation office at Seari Quarters, or take delivery
Send a photo of the old clamp or coupling with the hose size. We reply with the match and a quote.

A clamp or coupling carries only what its maker's datasheet allows. The pressure figures on this page come from Aims Industrial's supplier guides and are approximate, not standards, so your datasheet is the final word.
- Camlock for permanent pipelines: Not its job, per Aims Industrial's guide.
- Camlock for hydraulics above about 250 psi: Wrong coupling.
- Plastic camlock for high pressure: Low-pressure use only.
- Magnet test for grade: Does not prove 304 or 316.
- Pressure rating from looks: Always read the maker's data.
We found no Pakistani standard that sets a mandatory mark for these parts, and that may be out of date, so ask for the maker's datasheet and grade statement instead of a stamp.
What do Karachi buyers ask about clamps and couplings?
Short answers to what buyers ask us most. If yours is not here, ask on WhatsApp.
Ask on WhatsAppCan I use the same clamp on rubber hose and on stainless braided hose?
Not always. Rubber hose takes a wider band to spread the load, because a narrow worm clamp edge can cut it. Stainless braided hose needs a full stainless clamp, band and screw, since a zinc plated screw can contaminate the braid. Tell us the hose type and we match the clamp to it.
How many clamps do I need on one joint?
One is enough for low pressure water. On a critical joint use two clamps about 10 mm apart, with the screws turned 180 degrees from each other, so the load is shared and one slipped screw does not empty the line. Crews on the pressure washer forum use two or three on important joints.
Can you confirm a particular clamp size or grade is in stock?
Yes, we confirm it before you travel. Send the size in mm or inches and the grade you want, 304, 316 or zinc plated, on WhatsApp 0313 2291500. We check availability, reply with the match and the quote, and say plainly when something has to be ordered and how long that takes.
How can I tell if a clamp is really stainless?
A magnet is not proof. Cold working can make 304 magnetic, and a magnet cannot separate 304 from 316 or from cheaper 200 series. Only an alloy analyser or the maker's grade statement confirms it. Ask the seller for the grade in writing, and compare it against the part you are buying.
Why does my camlock arm keep popping open?
Arms pop open under load or vibration, and that is the most common camlock failure. Fit R-clips or lanyards on the arms so they cannot lift, and check the gasket is the right type for the liquid. If the arms still open, the male and female halves may be different standards or sizes.
Can I use a camlock on a hydraulic line?
No, not above about 250 psi. Aims Industrial's guide rates metal camlock in the 1/2 to 2 inch sizes at roughly 250 psi cold, for transfer lines and not for hydraulics. Hydraulic lines use JIC, ORFS, BSP or metric fittings matched to the hose. Send the machine and thread and we confirm what fits.
What is the difference between JIC and BSP fittings?
JIC seals metal to metal on a 37 degree flare. BSP is a parallel or tapered thread that seals with a bonded washer, a seat or sealant. They are not directly interchangeable, although adapters can join them. Check the sealing face and the thread pitch with a gauge before you order.
Can BSP and NPT fittings be mixed?
No. BSP has a 55 degree thread with rounded crests and NPT has a 60 degree thread with flat crests, so mixing them leaks in a spiral along the thread. A tapered NPT joint also needs sealant, where a JIC end does not. Use an adapter rated for both families, or buy the matching thread.
Is a quick coupler the same as a camlock?
No. A camlock is a cam and groove coupling with locking arms, made for liquid transfer lines. Quick couplers vary by system, air, water or hydraulic, so for a Karachi quick coupling tell us the system, the thread and the working pressure before we match one.
Do you deliver to SITE, Korangi, Landhi and Port Qasim?
We deliver all over Karachi, with the charge agreed on call or WhatsApp. Tell us your area and the date you need the part, and we confirm before dispatch. Collection from the Seari Quarters shop on Shahrah-e-Liaquat is also open Monday to Friday 11 am to 7:30 pm and Saturday 11 am to 7 pm.
Do clamps and couplings need a PSQCA mark in Pakistan?
We found no mandatory PSQCA mark for hose clamps, camlock couplings or hydraulic fittings, but that finding may be out of date. Ask for the maker's datasheet and grade statement instead of relying on a stamp. If a mark applies to your buyer or tender, tell us and we ask the maker.
