Which safety goggles or glasses fit your job?
Match the eyewear to the hazard first and the brand second. Dust and liquid splash need sealed or indirect vent goggles. Flying chips from the front need safety glasses with side cover. Prescription wearers need over-spectacles. Welding light needs a welding lens with the right shade. Sunny open sites need tinted lenses.
A pair that does not suit the job gives you confidence it has not earned. Plain glasses do not stop fine dust from creeping in at the edges, and clear goggles do nothing against arc light. What hits your eyes most often in a shift? Start with that row below.
| Hazard | Eyewear type | What to look for |
|---|---|---|
| Fine dust, sanding, cement | Sealed or direct vent goggles | EN 166 mark with dust code |
| Liquid splash, lab chemicals | Indirect vent or sealed goggles | EN 166 mark with splash code 3 |
| Chips and sparks from the front | Safety glasses with side cover | EN 166 mark with impact letter |
| Prescription glasses worn daily | Over-spectacles | Fits over frames without pressure |
| Welding and gas cutting | Welding glasses or welding goggles | Lens with a welding shade |
| Sun glare on an open site | Grey or smoke tinted glasses | Sun glare filter on the lens |
If your work has two hazards, say a welder who also grinds, tell us both. One pair rarely covers two, and we would rather quote two pairs than see one fail. Ask on WhatsApp with the job and what you wear now.
Safety glasses or safety goggles: what is the difference?
Safety glasses sit across the face like ordinary spectacles and let air in at the edges. Safety goggles press against the face and seal around the eyes. Glasses suit front impact and long wear. Goggles suit dust, splash and flying particles from several sides. Most workshops need both, for different jobs.
Glasses are lighter and sit comfortably over a day, which is why people keep them on. The edges stay open, so fine dust and splash can still reach the eye. Goggles close that gap but run warmer. Which one fails in your shop, the one you will not wear or the one that lets dust in? Buy for that failure.
What do the letters and numbers on the frame mean?
Safety eyewear carries a mark that starts with EN 166, the general European standard for eye protection. After it come letters and digits for impact strength and use. Impact letters run S for low speed, F, B and A, where A takes the hardest hit.
Here is the short reading guide, as described by Safetyware and Workwear.
| Mark | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| EN 166 | The general standard for eye protectors |
| Optical class 1, 2, 3 | Lens quality. Class 1 for regular wear, 2 for occasional use, 3 for rare use |
| S | Extra strength, small object at up to 12 m/s |
| F | Low energy impact, up to 45 m/s |
| B | Medium energy impact, up to 120 m/s |
| A | High energy impact, up to 190 m/s |
| T | Suitable for extreme temperatures |
| 3 | Liquid splash |
| 4 and 5 | Dust, with 4 for particles over 5 microns and 5 for particles under 5 microns |
| 8 | Electrical short circuit arc |
| 9 | Hot solids and molten metal splash |
| K | Scratch resistant lens |
| N | Lens resists fog |
| 2, 2C or 3 | UV filter, with 2C or 3 giving clearer colour recognition (EN 170) |
Of the Pakistani seller pages we read, two name EN 166 and none explains the letters. The same digit can sit in two places on the mark and mean different things, so ask us for the datasheet of the exact model. We confirm the mark before you pay.
How do you stop safety goggles fogging in Karachi heat?
Fog comes from warm breath and sweat meeting a cooler lens, so the fix is airflow and coating. Direct vent goggles pass the most air, indirect vent goggles pass air but keep splash out, and sealed goggles stop both dust and air. Pick the vent for the job, then add an anti fog lens.
In Karachi the problem is real. April to June maxima run about 35 to 36 C and humidity often stays above 60 percent in May, according to Wikipedia. A sealed goggle in a closed, hot room is where fogging shows first. Fogging is the first thing buyers type into a search box, and the right answer is a vent that matches the hazard, not a promise that nothing ever fogs.
If you need sealed protection for dust or chemical splash in a hot room, ask us for the indirect vent type with an anti fog coating. A lens with an N mark has been tested for fog resistance. Take breaks, clean the lens with a soft cloth and keep a spare pair, because a fogged pair gets pushed up onto the forehead.
Can you wear safety goggles over prescription glasses?
Yes, if you choose an over-spectacle design built to sit over your own frames. Over-spectacles are wider and deeper than ordinary safety glasses, so they clear your frames without pressing on the nose or temples. Goggles with a roomy body also fit over most glasses. Tell us your frame size when you ask.
Buyers type this question again and again, so it deserves a straight answer. The test is simple: the pair must sit over your frames without pressure points or distortion. A pair that pinches gets taken off. Try them on at the shop before you order for a crew. Our contact page has the shop address and hours.
Which welding glasses and goggles protect your eyes?
Welding glasses and welding goggles carry a dark lens with a shade number, and the number depends on the work. Droppe lists shade 5 for gas welding and torch cutting and shades 11 to 13 for arc welding. Clear safety glasses give no protection from welding light.
Gas welding and cutting suit goggles or wrap glasses with a fixed lens. Light work may use a shade 5 lens, and a flip up window lets the welder lift the dark lens to inspect a joint without taking the goggle off. Arc welding, at shades 11 to 13, uses a much darker lens, and that work usually calls for a welding helmet. Welding helmets sit with the welding bundle, so this page covers welding glasses and goggles only.
Karachi's welding work sits in workshops and fabrication units across SITE, Korangi and Landhi, where one bench may grind and weld in the same shift. Ask for the lens shade that matches your process and tell us whether you need a fixed lens or a flip up. If you want an auto darkening lens, ask us whether we have one in stock. We confirm the shade before we quote. A welder also needs welding gloves for the hands and a fire blanket within reach of the bench.
What eye protection suits dust, chips and chemical splash?
Dust needs a sealed or direct vent goggle, chips from the front need safety glasses with side cover, and liquid splash needs an indirect vent or sealed goggle with the splash mark. When two of these meet in one job, wear goggles. A goggle holds up on more sides than a pair of glasses.
Woodwork and cement dust blow around from every side, which is why the RS guide recommends full goggles for sanding. Grinding throws chips from the wheel, so side cover matters even with glasses. Chemical splash is the strictest case, because a gap at the edge is the way in. Send us the chemical name or the job and we pick the type. A grinder also needs ear muffs on the same shift, and we can quote both together.
Safety goggles for the lab and the workshop
Lab goggles and laboratory goggles are sealed goggles worn whenever hazardous work is under way, because the main risk in a lab is a spill or splash, as the RS guide explains. Workshops use the same sealed type for oils, coolants and cleaning fluid. Ask us for a lab goggle by name and say how many people need one.
Sun glare, tinted lenses and UV on an open site
Tinted safety glasses cut sun glare on open sites such as roads, rooftops, yards and loading areas, and UV filters protect against ultraviolet light. Grey and smoke lenses are the common choices. A glare lens shows a sun glare filter code on the lens. Clear lenses stay for indoor work and dim areas.
Look for the EN 166 mark and not just the tint, because a dark lens alone says nothing about impact. Do not wear a dark lens indoors or in dim light, because you will not see the hazard in front of you. Ask us for a clear and a tinted pair if your crew works both inside and out.
Do you need a face shield as well?
A face shield covers the whole face against splash and flying particles, but it does not replace goggles. Wear a face shield over safety goggles or safety glasses when the job throws a lot of material, such as grinding, cutting or chemical mixing. The shield protects the face, and the goggle seals the eyes.
Only one Karachi seller we read lists a face shield, so we cover it here and you can ask in one place. Tell us the job and whether you want a clear visor, and we confirm stock and the fitting. Keep your goggles on underneath.
Eyewear for the factories of SITE, Korangi and Landhi
Karachi makes about 30 percent of Pakistan's manufacturing output, according to Wikipedia, and most of it sits in the industrial zones: SITE, Korangi, Landhi, Bin Qasim, Federal B Area, North Karachi and Port Qasim. Its textiles, steel and chemical works mean one factory floor may need dust, spark and splash cover at once.
A purchase manager in SITE or Korangi usually orders for a whole shift, with mixed jobs on the same floor. Send us the list by area of the floor and the headcount, and we match the eyewear to each job. Add safety shoes to the same list and we quote the whole crew in one message. Collect from the shop at Seari Quarters, or ask for delivery. We deliver all over Karachi, and the charge is agreed on a call or WhatsApp.
What should you check on a pair before you buy?
Check the mark on the frame, the lens, the fit and the strap or legs. A pair should show EN 166, a clear lens with no scratches, side cover where you need it and a snug fit that does not press. If the mark is missing or the lens is scratched on delivery, send it back.
Hold the pair up to the light. Look for scratches, haze or a warped lens. Check the legs or strap for cracks, and press the frame to make sure it does not flex loosely. The RS guide says polycarbonate and acetate grow weaker as the material ages.
- The mark on the frame or lens, starting with EN 166
- A clear lens, free of scratches and haze
- A seal or side cover that matches the hazard
- Strap or legs that hold the pair without pressure
- Two lenses that match in colour and tint
Replace a pair as soon as the lens is scratched or cracked. The RS guide says to replace damaged eyewear promptly. We give no number of months, because it depends on the job.

What decides the rate for safety goggles in Pakistan
The rate for safety goggles in Pakistan depends on the type, the mark, the lens coating, the brand and the quantity. A sealed anti fog goggle costs more than a basic glasses frame, and a welding lens with a flip up window costs more than a fixed lens. We show no price on the page because it depends on the model.
Send the type, the quantity and the brand if you have one through the quote form or on WhatsApp at 0313 2291500. We reply with a rate for your exact order. For a large crew, ask about bulk terms, which we agree case by case.

Safety goggle questions people ask in Karachi
Short answers to what buyers ask us most. If yours is not here, ask on WhatsApp.
Ask on WhatsAppWhat is the difference between safety glasses and safety goggles?
Safety glasses sit across the face with open sides, and safety goggles seal around the eyes. Glasses are lighter and suit front impact. Goggles suit dust, splash and particles from several sides. Many workshops keep both. Tell us the hazard and we say which one the job needs.
What do EN 166 and ANSI Z87.1 mean on safety eyewear?
EN 166 is the European standard for eye protectors, and ANSI Z87.1 is the American one. The mark on the frame or lens shows which standard the pair was made to, plus letters for impact strength and use. Ask us for the datasheet of the exact model to read its mark.
Can I wear safety goggles over my prescription glasses?
Yes, with an over-spectacle or a roomy goggle that sits over your frames without pressing on the nose or temples. Tell us your frame size when you ask. Try the pair on at the shop before you order for a team, because a pair that pinches gets taken off.
Why do safety goggles fog and how do I stop it?
Fog forms when warm breath and sweat meet a cooler lens. Karachi heat and humidity make it common. Choose a vent type that suits the job, add an anti fog lens, wipe with a soft cloth and keep a spare pair. No goggle stays fog free in every condition, so buy the vent for the hazard.
Which safety glasses for welding?
Gas welding and cutting use a welding lens with a shade number, and Droppe lists shade 5 for that work. Arc welding needs a much darker filter, which belongs to a welding helmet. Clear safety glasses give no protection from welding light. Tell us your process and we confirm the shade.
Do safety goggles protect against chemical splash?
Goggles marked for liquid splash, with a sealed or indirect vent body, protect against splash when they fit snugly. Open glasses do not. Send us the chemical name or the job and we recommend the type. No single goggle suits every chemical, so we confirm before you buy.
How long do safety goggles last?
There is no fixed time, because it depends on the job and how you store them. Replace a pair when the lens is scratched, cracked, hazy or clouded, or when the strap or legs are loose or cracked. Keep spare pairs so nobody wears a damaged one because there is no other.
Are safety goggles compulsory in Karachi workplaces?
The Sindh Occupational Safety and Health Act, 2017 requires employers, in section 4(4)(h), to provide adequate protective equipment where hazards cannot be removed, and workers, in section 8(1)(c), to use what is provided. Eyewear is not named. Ask your safety officer for your workplace rules.
Do you deliver safety goggles all over Karachi?
Yes. UTC delivers all over Karachi, and the charge is agreed on a call or WhatsApp at 0313 2291500. You can also collect from the shop at Shop no 1, Shams Chamber, Shahrah-e-Liaquat, opposite the DIGP investigation office, Seari Quarters. Send the quantity and we confirm stock first.
What should I send to get a quote?

We reply on WhatsApp at 0313 2291500 with the right model and a rate, which is how you get the price of safety goggles in Pakistan for your exact order.
