Which safety gloves fit your hazard?
Match the glove to the hazard first, and the brand second. Cut hazards need cut resistant gloves, heat and sparks need leather welding gloves, live electrical work needs insulating gloves of the right class, and oils and chemicals need nitrile, neoprene or PVC. General handling needs leather or coated knit gloves.
A wrong glove can be worse than a bare hand, because it gives you confidence it has not earned. A cotton glove does not stop a blade, and a household rubber glove does not insulate against a live wire. Which hazard do your people meet most often in a shift? Start there and read the matching row.
| Hazard | Glove family | Standard to look for |
|---|---|---|
| Blades, glass, sheet metal edges | Cut resistant gloves | EN 388 |
| Welding heat and sparks | Leather welding gloves | EN 12477 |
| Hot surfaces and radiant heat | Heat resistant gloves | EN 407 |
| Live electrical work | Electrical insulating gloves | EN 60903 |
| Oils, solvents, acids | Nitrile, neoprene or PVC gloves | EN 374 |
| Boxes, pallets, rough surfaces | Leather or coated knit gloves | EN 388 and EN 420 |
| Light splash and hygiene | Disposable nitrile gloves | EN 374 |
If your work has two hazards, say a welder who also handles sheet metal, tell us both. One pair rarely covers two, and we would rather quote you two pairs than see one fail. Ask on WhatsApp with the hazard and the glove you use now.
What do the standards on a glove label mean?
A standard on a glove label tells you what the glove was tested for. EN 420 covers fit and dexterity. EN 388 covers mechanical hazards such as abrasion and cuts. EN 374 covers chemicals, EN 407 heat, EN 12477 welding and EN 60903 electrical insulation. A glove with no standard on it has no test behind it.
Most Karachi sellers list gloves by a model code and a coating, such as PU coated or foam nitrile, and say nothing about the standard. Of the 14 competitor pages we read, 3 name EN 388, none explains EN 374 or EN 407 and none mentions EN 12477. The table below is the short version.
| Standard | What it covers | When to ask for it |
|---|---|---|
| EN 420 | General requirements: fit, size, dexterity | Every glove you buy |
| EN 388 | Abrasion, cut, tear, puncture, impact | Handling, metalwork, glass, tools |
| EN 374 | Chemical protection, Types A, B and C | Oils, solvents, acids, cleaning |
| EN 407 | Heat and fire | Hot surfaces, flame, metal splash |
| EN 12477 | Welding gloves, Types A and B | Arc welding and cutting |
| EN 60903 | Electrical insulating gloves, classes 00 to 4 | Live electrical work |
For EN 374, Type A protects against six listed chemicals for at least 30 minutes, Type B against three for at least 30 minutes and Type C against one for 10 minutes. For EN 12477, Type A gives the higher protection and Type B gives more dexterity with slightly lower protection. Ask us which type your model carries.
How do you read the EN 388 numbers and letters?
An EN 388 mark is a shield with a row of numbers and letters, in a fixed order. The first number is abrasion (1 to 4), then blade cut (0 to 5), tear (0 to 4) and puncture (0 to 4). The next letter is the straight cut test (A to F), then P if the glove passed impact.
Read it left to right, and the higher the figure the better. A mark such as 4X43D would mean abrasion 4, X for a cut test not done, tear 4, puncture 3 and straight cut D. Here is the scale for cuts, which is where buyers get confused.
| Cut test | Scale | What a high figure means |
|---|---|---|
| Blade cut (coup test) | 0 to 5 | The glove survived more blade travel before cutting through |
| Straight cut (ISO 13997) | A to F | The glove needed more force to be cut by one straight pass |
Karachi sellers print "level 5" on cut resistant gloves. That is the blade cut figure, not the letters. If the blade went dull during the test, the standard asks for the letter test as well, so the two can sit side by side. Ask us for the mark on the exact model before you rely on the number.
How do cut resistant gloves work, and when do you need them?
Cut resistant gloves use a strong liner, often HPPE fibre, and a coating such as PU or foam nitrile so a blade or a sharp edge does not slide through. You need them wherever hands meet sheet metal, glass, blades or sharp tools. Cut resistant is not cut proof, and no glove stops every blade.
Karachi workshops that cut, press or load metal use them the most: sheet metal edges, glass panes, strapping and packing blades. A sharp edge catches a thin glove in one swipe, and a hand that bleeds into a machine is a lost shift. Cut gloves also help in food lines, where stainless steel mesh gloves are used for meat and similar work.
Look at three things. The cut figure on the EN 388 mark tells you the protection. The coating tells you grip: PU for dry work, foam nitrile for light oil. The fit tells you control, because a loose glove slips and a tight one tires the hand. Rival sellers list models such as Safeyear PU coated, Total HPPE and INGCO PU coated gloves, as well as HPPE arm sleeves and stainless mesh. We list cut resistant gloves and anti cut gloves in the same families, and a shift supervisor can ask us for the liner and the mark before ordering. Where chips fly, add safety goggles.
Honest limit: a coating that peels or a liner that frays means the glove has lost its protection even if it still looks whole. Replace it. We do not give a number of weeks, because it depends on the job.
Which welding gloves handle heat and sparks on a Karachi workshop floor?
Welding gloves are made of thick leather, often cow split or goat grain, with a long gauntlet cuff, and carry the EN 12477 mark. They protect against sparks, spatter and radiant heat. A heat resistant glove for hot surfaces is a different product, tested to EN 407, so say which job you do. A welder also needs welding glasses for the arc.
Fabrication units and workshops in zones such as SITE, Korangi and Landhi weld, grind and cut. A welder needs a long cuff to cover the wrist, a double palm where the rod or torch rests, and a lining that does not melt. Rival sellers list 16 inch red leather welding gloves, double palm leather welding gloves, aluminium foil heat resistant leather gloves and thick body leather glove mitts for hot work. We list leather gloves for welding in the same families, and you can ask for TIG welding gloves when you need finer control on thin metal. The same crew usually needs safety shoes with steel toe caps.
Which one for which job? EN 12477 Type A gives the higher protection for intense welding, and Type B gives more dexterity with slightly lower protection. Tell us the process and the metal and we match the type, the cuff and the leather. We give no temperature figure here, because the number belongs to the exact model and its marking. Keep a fire blanket within reach of the bench.
Can any glove protect you from electric shock?
No. Only electrical insulating gloves, made and tested for it, protect you from a live wire. A leather, cotton or household rubber glove does not insulate. Insulating gloves carry the EN 60903 mark and a class that matches the voltage of the job. People ask on Quora if gloves let you touch a live wire.
Electricians work in Karachi's factories and buildings, where a live panel is part of the job. Rival sellers list class 00 and class 0 gloves, higher classes up to class 3, a 400V pair and 12KV rubber insulated gloves, from brands such as Honeywell and DPL. We list electrical insulating gloves in the same range of classes.
What do electrical glove classes mean?
A class tells you the highest alternating voltage the glove is rated to work at: 500 V for class 00, 1,000 V for class 0, 7,500 V for class 1, 17,000 V for class 2, 26,500 V for class 3 and 36,000 V for class 4. Pick a class above your job's voltage.
| Class | Highest AC working voltage | Colour code |
|---|---|---|
| 00 | 500 V | Beige |
| 0 | 1,000 V | Red |
| 1 | 7,500 V | White |
| 2 | 17,000 V | Yellow |
| 3 | 26,500 V | Green |
| 4 | 36,000 V | Orange |
Never use a lower class than your voltage needs, and never use a glove you have not checked. Look at it before every use for cracks, cuts and a sticky or dry surface. One standards guide says to test insulating gloves electrically every six months, so ask us for the datasheet of the model you order. Gloves that have never been tested are not safe gloves.
Which gloves for oil, solvents and chemicals?
For oils and solvents, nitrile gloves are the usual choice. Neoprene handles many acids and caustic cleaners, and PVC suits general splash work. No single glove resists every chemical, so tell us the chemical by name. Chemical resistant gloves carry the EN 374 mark, with a type that shows how many chemicals they were tested against.
Do you handle one chemical or several? One chemical may call for one material, and a mix of cleaners may need a different one. A glove that works for oil can fail in a strong acid in minutes. We would rather ask you two questions than quote you the wrong pair.
Rival sellers list flock lined neoprene and nitrile gloves in food grade and chemical resistant forms (DPL Frontier, DPL Interface Plus, Rubberex RN15 and RN18), PVC coated general purpose gloves and nitrile oil resistant gloves from Total and INGCO. We list chemical resistant gloves, acid resistant gloves and chemical proof gloves in the same materials. Send the product name or the data sheet of the chemical on WhatsApp and we match the glove to it.
Leather, knit and coated gloves for everyday handling
Most gloves bought in Karachi are not the specialist ones. They are the leather driver, the Canadian rigger, the double palm and the string knit glove that crews wear to lift, load and carry. They protect against abrasion, splinters and rough edges, and they wear out first at the fingertips. On a loud floor, check ear muffs and ear plugs too.
Leather work gloves suit rough, dry work: godowns, loading, general workshop work and assembly. Rival sellers list goat grain and cow split leather, and the leather type is worth asking about. String knit cotton polyester gloves with a PVC dot or crinkle latex palm are light, breathable and cheap to replace, and they suit packing and light handling. The same sellers list assembly and driver gloves, the Canadian rigger and double palm styles.
Karachi's hot, humid months, with highs of 35 to 36 °C from April to June and humidity over 60% in May, make sweat a real glove problem. A damp hand slides in a glove. For long summer shifts, a knit or lightly coated glove stays cooler than a thick leather one, and a cuff that grips the wrist keeps dust out. Tell us the shift length and we suggest the glove.
Disposable nitrile gloves or work gloves: which one do you need?
Disposable nitrile gloves are single use gloves for hygiene and light splash work. Work gloves are thicker, reusable and made for cuts, heat or abrasion. If the hazard is a cut, a hot surface or a strong chemical, a disposable glove is not enough. If it is dirt, light oil or hygiene, it is.
Examination gloves, sold for clinics and labs, are disposable gloves for medical use and are a different product from industrial nitrile gloves. Marketplace pages mix them with gardening and kitchen gloves, which is why a buyer searching for work gloves sees so much noise. UTC lists disposable nitrile gloves for industrial and workshop use. Tell us the job, and we say if a disposable glove will do or if you need a thicker nitrile one.
How do you pick the right glove size for a crew?
Pick the size by the person's hand, not by the job. A glove that is too tight tires the hand and cuts circulation, and one that is too loose slips or catches in a machine. For a crew, collect a size per person before you order, then add a spare pair or two.
One Karachi seller lists its work gloves from size 7 (S) to 11 (XXL) and advises going up a size in leather and down a size in knit gloves when you are between sizes. For fine work such as wiring or inspection, a thinner liner keeps touch.
Send a list on WhatsApp: name or number, size, and the glove. We reply with what we have in each size. If a size is out, we tell you before you order, and we do not swap it for a different one without asking.
Safety gloves for the factories of SITE, Korangi and Landhi
Karachi's industrial zones include SITE at Manghopir, Landhi, Korangi, Federal B Area, North Karachi, Bin Qasim and Port Qasim. The city makes about 30% of Pakistan's manufacturing output, from textiles and steel to chemicals and food. Each of those has its own hand hazard, and a factory that buys safety gloves in Karachi in bulk buys more than one kind.
A steel yard needs leather and cut resistant gloves. A chemical unit needs nitrile and neoprene. A food plant needs cut resistant gloves for the knife line and disposable nitrile for hygiene. An electrical team needs insulating gloves of the right class and a leather over glove. You do not need to travel to us. Send the zone, the job and the headcount on WhatsApp and we quote the whole order together.
Collection is from the shop at Seari Quarters, off Shahrah-e-Liaquat, or we deliver all over Karachi with the charge agreed on a call or WhatsApp. Pick the way that suits your shift.
Checking gloves on delivery: five things to look at
Open the box and look before you hand the gloves out. A glove that fails at the stitch fails on the job. These five checks take a minute, and they work for any seller, ours included.
- The label. The standard, the size and the maker should be printed or stitched on. No label means no way to check.
- The stitching and cuff. No loose threads or gaps, and a cuff that is hemmed.
- The coating or rubber. Even coat, no thin spots, no cracks, no sticky patches on rubber.
- The pair. Left and right match, and the size is the one you ordered.
- The date. Rubber and coated gloves age, so look for a manufacturing date.
If any check fails, tell us the same day with a photo. We replace what is wrong or we say why it is fine.
Safety glove brands you can order in Karachi
Buyers in Karachi mostly ask for safety gloves by brand and model: Safeyear, Safety Jogger, Honeywell, DPL and Rubberex for the specialist pairs, Besto, Ansell and Total for the general and heat ones, and INGCO for coated gloves. Send UTC the brand and the model on WhatsApp, and we confirm the stock and send the marking.
| Brand | Lines buyers ask for | What to send us |
|---|---|---|
| Safeyear | PU and nitrile coated cut resistant gloves (PD8045, PD8046, HDPNFM, TPR9004) | The model code |
| Safety Jogger | ProCut cut resistant foam nitrile gloves | The model name |
| Honeywell | Electrosoft class 00 electrical gloves | The class and size |
| DPL | Frontier neoprene, Interface Plus nitrile, Linepro electrical gloves | The model and class |
| Rubberex | RN15 and RN18 flock lined nitrile gloves | The model code |
| Besto | Canadian rigger and level 5 cut and impact leather gloves | The model number |
| Total, INGCO | HPPE cut gloves, nitrile and leather gloves | The model name |
The mark, the class and the cut figure belong to the exact model, not the brand, so we check each against its datasheet before we quote. If your brand is not on this list, send its name and the model and we tell you whether we can get it.
What decides the rate for safety gloves in Pakistan
The price of safety gloves in Pakistan depends on five things: the glove type, the standard, the size range, the brand and the quantity. A plain leather glove and an insulating glove are priced very differently, and a branded model with a datasheet costs more than an unbranded pair.
We do not print prices on this page. A rate changes with the model and the order size, so we quote after you tell us the type, the sizes and the number of pairs. A quote costs you one message. Send us the whole list and we price it together, which is faster and usually cleaner than pair by pair.
How do you order safety gloves from UTC?
You order from UTC by sending the hazard, the sizes and the quantity on WhatsApp or the quote form, then collecting from the shop at Shams Chamber, Shahrah-e-Liaquat, Seari Quarters, or agreeing delivery. We answer with the model, what is in stock and a quote.
You can also call or visit the shop without any message first.
- Tell us the hazard. Cut, heat, electrical, chemical or general handling, and the chemical or voltage if there is one.
- Send sizes and quantity. How many people, which sizes, and how many pairs each.
- Add a brand or model if you have one. A photo of the old pair or its label saves a round of questions.
- Get your quote. We reply on WhatsApp or through the quote form.
- Collect or agree delivery. Pick up at the shop, or have it sent all over Karachi with the charge agreed on a call or WhatsApp.

Safety glove questions people ask in Karachi
Short answers to what buyers ask us most. If yours is not here, ask on WhatsApp.
Ask on WhatsAppAre safety gloves compulsory in Karachi workplaces?
The Sindh Occupational Safety and Health Act, 2017 makes the employer provide suitable protective equipment where a hazard cannot be removed (section 4(4)(h)), and workers must use what they are given (section 8(1)(c)). Section 10(2)(k) lets Government make rules on protective equipment. The Act does not name gloves, and we quote no fine.
Which gloves for welding?
Leather welding gloves marked to EN 12477. Type A gives the higher protection for intense welding, and Type B gives more dexterity with slightly lower protection. Look for a long cuff and a double palm. A plain work glove or a household rubber glove is not a welding glove and can melt or burn through.
Nitrile, latex or PVC: which gloves for chemicals?
It depends on the chemical, so tell us its name. Nitrile suits oils and many solvents, neoprene suits many acids and PVC suits general splash work. No single glove covers every chemical, and the EN 374 mark shows how many it was tested against.
Do cut resistant gloves stop a knife?
They slow a blade, and they do not stop every blade. Cut resistant means the glove survived a standard test at a set level, not that you can grab a knife by the edge. Treat the cut figure as a margin for accidents. Ask us for the mark and the liner of the exact model.
Can rubber gloves protect me from a live wire?
Only electrical insulating gloves tested to EN 60903, in a class that matches the voltage. Household or kitchen rubber gloves are not made or tested to insulate, and they are not safe on a live wire. Check the glove before each use and ask us for the class and size you need.
How long do work gloves last?
There is no fixed time. Replace gloves when the coating peels, the liner frays, the palm thins, the stitching opens or the rubber cracks. Leather wears out first at the fingertips. We give no number of weeks, because it depends on the job. Keep spare pairs, so nobody wears a damaged glove because there is no other.
Are disposable nitrile gloves enough for workshop work?
Not for cuts, heat or strong chemicals. Disposable nitrile gloves suit hygiene, dirt and light splash, and they tear easily. For a cut hazard use cut resistant gloves, for hot work use welding or heat resistant gloves, and for strong chemicals use thicker chemical resistant gloves marked to EN 374.
How do I order safety gloves for a whole crew?
Send the hazard, a size per person and the quantity on WhatsApp at 0313 2291500. We reply with what is in stock in each size and a rate for the whole order. For a large crew, add a few spare pairs. Ask us about bulk terms for your order, because we agree them case by case.
Do you deliver safety gloves all over Karachi?
Yes. UTC delivers all over Karachi, and the charge is agreed on a call or WhatsApp at 0313 2291500. You can also collect from the shop at Shop no 1, Shams Chamber, Shahrah-e-Liaquat, opposite the DIGP investigation office, Seari Quarters. Send the headcount and the sizes, and we confirm stock first.
What should I send to get a quote?
Send the hazard or job, the glove family, the sizes, the quantity, the brand and model if you have one, and your area in Karachi. We reply on WhatsApp at 0313 2291500 with the right model and a rate, which is how you get the price of safety gloves in Pakistan for your exact model.
