What does a fire breaker do inside a DB box?
It waits for heat. If a loose joint or an overloaded line cooks the inside of the box, the device releases an aerosol cloud that stops the flame before it runs along the cables. It acts once and then has to be replaced.
Most fires in a DB box start quietly. A loose connection heats up for hours before anyone smells smoke, often with nobody home. Buyers search it as a DB fire extinguisher, an MCB fire extinguisher or a DIN rail fire extinguisher. Sellers also call it a distribution board fire extinguisher, an electrical cabinet fire extinguisher, an electrical panel fire extinguisher or DB fire protection. It is the same small unit.
How does the device work?
Here is fire breaker how it works in plain words: a heat-sensitive element holds a sealed charge. At the trigger temperature the element lets go, the charge burns and turns into a fine aerosol, and the cloud fills the box. Nothing electric is involved, so cutting the supply does not stop it.
How does a hot aerosol fire extinguishing device work?
Think of a sealed can with no nozzle and no handle. The cloud takes the flame's fuel away from it. This is an aerosol fire extinguishing device and a form of aerosol fire suppression, built for closed boxes. Seller pages disagree on the trigger temperature, from about 50 to 90 C on one page to 170 C on another, so we print the label values below.
Is it an aerosol fire extinguisher like a spray can?
No. It has no trigger and no pressure can, and you do not point it at anything. This unit works by itself inside the box, and sellers also list it as an automatic aerosol fire extinguisher for DB boxes.
Where it fits: home, shop, solar and panels
It fits any closed box with a DIN rail, and it protects only that box. Treat it as an extra layer, not a legal need.
| Place | Why people fit it |
|---|---|
| Home DB box | The box often sits in a store or a passage and goes unchecked for years. Fire breaker for home is a search we see in Karachi |
| Solar and inverter box | Solar is the setting named most often in seller posts, and Karachi heat adds load |
| Shop or office board | Fire breaker for DB boxes in shops adds electrical panel fire protection for stock and records overnight |
| UPS, server rack, control panel | Sellers list them as targets. A panel fire extinguisher of this kind suits a small closed enclosure, and it is a form of electrical panel fire suppression |
| Telecom cabinet | Closed, sealed and left alone for months |
Karachi reached 41.5 C on 29 May 2024, the hottest day of that year. An overloaded board runs hotter on days like that.
What the label says and what sellers say

We have not seen test papers for those codes, so we do not claim approval. Sellers call this product a hot aerosol fire extinguishing device and publish different numbers for it.

What a fire breaker does not do
It replaces nothing else. Read these limits before you buy.
- It covers one small closed box, not a room.
- It sounds no alarm and cuts no supply. DB fire safety also needs a sound board and tight joints. Add smoke detectors and fire alarm equipment for warning.
- It does not replace a hand extinguisher or a fire blanket. See fire extinguishers and fire blankets.
- It does not fix the fault. Bad wiring still needs an electrician.
- It is single use. Once fired, it is spent.
For a ball you place near a hazard, see the fire ball page. That is a different product.
How to fit it in your DB box
We sell the device and do not fit it. Use a qualified electrician. Fire breaker installation takes a few minutes for someone already in the box.
- Switch off the supply at the main and confirm the box is dead.
- Check the free space on the 35 mm DIN rail next to the MCBs. A DIN rail aerosol fire extinguisher usually takes the width of one single-pole breaker.
- Snap the device onto the rail close to the parts that heat up, such as the incoming MCB.
- Close the box and restore the supply. Write the date on the lid for your records.
What happens after it fires
Switch off the supply at the main and leave the box shut until it cools. Then call an electrician to find what overheated, because the device stops the flame and the fault is still there.
An aerosol fire extinguisher of this type leaves a light dust. Sellers call it non-conductive, but data centre guidance warns that dust can mark sensitive parts. Wipe the box out once the electrician says it is safe, and replace the spent unit.
What to check before you buy
Sellers differ on almost every number. These five checks protect you.
- Ask for a photo of the label: model, weight, maker and date.
- Ask what volume it covers. If your box is bigger, buy more than one or ask us first.
- Ask for the test papers for any standard printed on the label.
- Ask what the warranty covers, in writing. The sellers we checked gave none on one listing, a 7 day check period on one site and a one year banner with no terms on another. Ask us for our terms on this unit.
- Ask who fits it and what that costs. We do not fit it.

What is a fire breaker?
It is a small sealed device that clips onto the DIN rail in a DB box and releases fire-stopping aerosol when the box gets hot. It is not the circuit breaker itself.
Will a circuit breaker stop a fire?
Not always. A breaker trips on overload or a short circuit, and it can miss a loose joint that only heats up. The aerosol device reacts to heat, so people add it. It does not replace the breaker.
Can a circuit breaker cause a fire?
Yes, if the connection to it is loose or the breaker is old or overloaded. The terminal heats up and the plastic around it can burn. A good electrician should tighten and check the joints, and an MCB fire protection device covers the gap.
What should I do if an MCB catches fire?
Get everyone out and switch off the main supply if you can reach it safely. Call Rescue 1122. Do not throw water on a live board.
Does it replace a fire extinguisher?
No. It covers one closed box. You still need a hand extinguisher in the building. Browse fire extinguishers.
Is the aerosol safe for electronics?
Sellers say it is non-conductive and leaves no residue. Data centre guidance says fine particles can leave residue on sensitive parts. After a discharge, have the box cleaned and checked before you power it again.
How long does it last and how do I check it?
Sellers quote a 10 year service life on four of eight pages. Ask us for the date on the label of the unit you buy, and look at it each year when the box is opened for other work.
How many do I need?
One per closed box, if the box is smaller than the volume the label prints. A large double-row board may need two. Send a photo of the box on WhatsApp and we will say.
Fire breaker kya hai?
Yeh ek chhota device hai jo DB box ke andar lagta hai. Jab box bohat garam ho jaye to yeh khud fire-stopping aerosol chhor deta hai. Isko bijli ya battery nahi chahiye. Yeh sirf ek baar chalta hai, phir naya lagana parta hai.
