How does the ball release its powder?

What did a US regulator find on one brand of fire ball?
On 28 March 2024 the US Consumer Product Safety Commission warned people to stop using the Elide fire ball. It tested the balls against UL 299, the US standard for dry chemical extinguishers. The balls had no pressure gauge, no lock to stop a discharge, no self-closing valve and no discharge nozzle, and could fail to put out a fire. That warning covers one brand, and it does not cover the AFO ball. It tells you what to ask any seller for: a paper for the model, not a promise.
Should I buy a fire ball or a fire extinguisher?
Buy the extinguisher first. A rated extinguisher has a gauge, a pin and a nozzle, and you control it. Add a ball where a fire could start with nobody present, such as a closed store room or a meter room.
